I’ve
got a bad tick. How do I fix it?
If you are getting data from an Easy Data Provider such as Hyperfeed, highlight
the symbol in your focus list, right click and select Delete data, All
data and then Delete. Once this has been done, run your To Do List again
to recollect the corrected data. In a real-time profile, you can highlight
the symbol in your focus list, right-click and select reload data.

Why
am I not getting a signal on a certain stock?
OmniTrader is a prospecting tool. It will not find signals on every symbol
in your list at all times. A blank in the signal column indicated that
OmniTrader has generated signals in the Backtest period. They can be viewed
by scrolling out to a larger timeframe in your chart
Back to Top
Why
do my signals change?
Since we view OT as a prospecting tool, we are looking for trade opportunities
- once OT has presented us with a good candidate, visual chart pattern
confirmation or use of other tools (system plots, weekly confirmation,
etc.) in OT are used to confirm it.
So,
what happens when we take a trade and the signal
changes? As Ed Downs says, 'trade outside of the
vote line'. This means that OT has helped us find
the candidate but once we are in trade, the vote
line is of small concern as OT has basically done
its job.
In your example, OT gives us XCY as a candidate and we then confirm it
with chart patterns, primary market direction analysis, etc. We take a
long position based on our analysis. The next day OT fires a short - are
our reasons for entering the long trade still valid? If the answer is yes,
the short signal is of little concern. If our reasons are not valid anymore
(an OT signal is not a reason to trade, only an opportunity), then the
chart would identify that for us, and we would rethink our position regardless
of a short signal or not.
The Signal Watch website is a perfect example of this theory in action
- the Signals section gives us opportunities, and some are taken in the
Trades section as actual positions. However, our Trades section uses the
chart and additional analysis to manage trades once we have entered a position.
In fact, we do not even show the vote line in that section to better illustrate
this point.
A signal in the opposite direction is viewed by some as a sign of weakness,
but always keeping in mind that OT is a prospecting tool will help you
look beyond the vote line on trade management decisions and become a more
successful OT user.

How
do I add more Data Periods to Real Time?
Click on Edit and Data periods. Click on the Add button and then put a
tick in Minute, Daily or Weekly. If you are choosing minute then type in
the time period of minutes you want. You can leave the bars to be loaded
as the default unless you are looking for more data. Put a check in To
be Voted as well as Create Systems based on 5 minutes.
Why
do I not see 5 or 15 min time frames; I only have
the Daily/Weekly options?
You may not be in a real-time profile. If you are using one of our installed
profiles, it will have an RT prefix. If you created the profile you should
have an RT icon on your main OmniTrader toolbar. If you have the To-Do
List in place of RT you are in an end of day profile. You will need to
create a new profile from the File menu or switch to (File, Open) one of
the installed real-time profiles.

I
trade symbols on a non-US market. Sometimes I bring
up a chart and the US symbol name is displayed
at the top of my chart. Why does this happen?
The problem occurs when user data symbols and easy data
symbols overlap. Though your Exchange editor in OT is set to your local
exchange, the symbols in the easy data database are set by default to the
NASDAQ or NYSE exchanges. This setting is over-riding the exchange editor
settings. The solution to this problem is to delete the symbols from the
easy data database.
Please follow the steps below:
1. Click Edit, Exchange Information and set the default exchange for
the market you are trading
2. Click the pencil icon
3. Select Easy as the data source
4. Select the US Stocks Tab
5. Highlight the symbol at the top of the list
6. Drag the scroll bar on the right side of the database window half way
down the page
7. Hold down Shift and select the bottom symbol (it will take a minute
for the highlight to show as it has a long way to scroll)
8. Once all the symbols are highlighted, click the Delete button at the
bottom of the symbols database
9. Repeat steps 4-7 for remaining symbols
10. Click OK to save the changes
It
may be necessary to add some of the symbols that
previously overlapped back into your focus list.
If you see error 3167 when clicking through your
focus list, simply add the symbol that generates
the error back to the focus list from your user data
folder to re-establish the path.

How
do I Add Forex Symbols?
Forex symbols must be added into a stocks profile in OmniTrader. Because
of the difference in the Fore exchange they cannot be added into a Futures
profile. You can add the symbols by using the Quick Chart function in the
top toolbar and typing in the symbol name, pressing enter on your keyboard
and then giving the new symbol a name and clicking okay.

I
am getting error 3343 how do I fix it?
Please follow the entire path for the error message (Ex: C:\Program files\Nirvana\Data\Symbols32.mdb).
The last file in the path has become corrupted and you must delete the
file from your hard drive. In this instance it would be the Symbols32.mdb
that needs to be deleted. You can do this thru either Windows Explorer
or My Computer. Once you have deleted it you may need to reinstall from
the disk to replace the file if it was anything other than one of the profiles
in OmniTrader.
